On this first of July, it is with great pleasure that Quatorze Plus presents "Pierre Poisson à Montréal", a breath-taking, warm weather collection of Canadian plus-size women's fashion from Quebec's independent fashion designer, Pierre Poisson. Monsieur Poisson has designed and manufactured women's clothing for more than 3 decades and is well-known to the Montreal fashion scene.
This collection showcases two different sides to Monsieur Poisson's design aesthetic, and perhaps they represent two different collections. First there is a Poisson "signature" silhouette: classically elegant, timelessly feminine and generously draped in saturated jewel-tones, with sumptuous fabrics women (let alone plus-size women) rarely see. In this part of Monsieur Poisson's collection, I believe we see the "presence" of French designer, Dior. And then there are the contemporary silhouettes, energetically and youthfully bold graphics, electric primary colours and we are transported back to the androgynous 60's (France's Courreges, and Britain's Mary Quant). And throughout these collections, there is what has been widely acknowledged as Monsieur Poisson's impecable tailoring.
Fast fashion? Hardly. But I suspect we're in the presence of a Quebec national treasure in Monsieur Poisson's talent and his focus on women's plus-size fashion.
This fashion editorial was brought to you by Quatorze Plus in collaboration with Monsieur Pierre Poisson. Monsieur Poisson designed and produced these collections and styled this fashion editorial. The garments were cut by his own hands, chosen and finished especially for Quatorze Plus model, Marilyne Marin.
Marilyne Marin, size 14 and 5 feet 11 inches tall in bare feet, was our sensational fashion model. Marilyne, who is 26 years old, is a student at UQAM where she studies Career Development and Spanish. She also dances the tango and swing. Marilyne's skin was prepped using organic green tea, organic jojoba oil and pure vitamin E and I applied her make-up using Canada's Pure Anada as well as Burt's Bees cosmetics.
I photographed the editorial with a Sony A7 II camera and the Sony FE24 - 240mm F3.5 - 6.3 zoom lens in natural sunlight (without flash, speed lights, beauty boxes, reflectors or tripod) and some light editing in Adobe Lightroom.
It was a rare treat to work with and showcase Quebec independent plus-size fashion at Quatorze Plus. Thank you Monsieur Poisson and thank you Marilyne Marin. On behalf of Monsieur Poisson and myself, we thank you, our audience, for your interest in Quebec plus-size fashion. We invite you to share your sincere opinion of our presentation.
Let the celebrations begin!
